In the Volksoper allotment garden association, this place is called Zur heißen Zitrone, where everyone regularly meets for a spritzer and a cheese toastie: long-time residents, newcomers, artist-bobos, retirees – everyone who has managed to get their hands on a spot in the idyllic oasis and who is keen to defend the patch of green that belongs only to them …

In a city where green is a rarity, a spot in a “Kleingartenverein“ is a coveted prize: sought after by many, granted to few. And once obtained, it must be defended – territory, appearances, and the delicate choreography of communal life. In Zur heißen Zitrone, we tell the big and small stories of this microcosm – a mirror of Austria itself. And what binds them together is, of course, music: Austropop.
