Description / Beschreibung
The grand opers "Die Stumme von Portici" (1828) is classed as Daniel Francois-Esprit Auber's chief work, whereby his mastery was made even more obvious in the genre of comic opera as "Fra Diavolo", two years its junior, attests. The "robber story" is based on true historical facts and is one of the pearls of opéra comique. "Fra Diavolo" is being newly staged for the seventh time in the Volksoper.
