The romantic opera "Der Freischütz" has mostly to do with fear of failure and haunted woodlands; it ends in victory over the dark powers to the thunder of gloriously spirited music, and is one of the most popular German operas in the Volksopera repertoire (Alexander Zemlinski conducted the first performance here in 1904). |
