The melodies of the tenor’s brilliant romances, the lively parasol mazurka and Vidal’s sad song of farewell “Morena Clara” are world famous. Plácido Domingo has sung the part of the fiery lover Javier countless times. Now he is switching vocal roles and takes to the stage at the Theater an der Wien as Vidal. Moreno Torroba’s music has always had a special meaning for the outstanding singer: “I grew up with it,” he says. “I heard my mother singing Luisa hundreds of times.”
